The best new blog I discovered in 2008 was the literary blog The Millions. It has a sharp sense of humor, a discriminating eye, and a pleasant lack of self-absorption in the literary world.
An example of the kind of things they do: a review of a year’s worth of New Yorker fiction complete with a statistical breakdown. This review introduced me to that incredibly useful term “suburban malaise”, the central leitmotif in short American fiction.
They provided the most interesting end-of-year list: a huge list of favorite reads of 2008 by different authors, some famous, some not so much.
Enjoy.
